Smoke clears up around the destroyed self-built collider. Between grandma’s home organ, a bubbling wurlitzer, drums and guitars – with all of which the Berlin based songwriter, producer and long distance cyclist Moritz Ecker just had been recording his album YES all alone in his living room – there are suddenly lying Ray Davies, Bob Dylan and the animal from the Muppet Show, hungover in bed, while Jane Fonda makes coffee. And yet everything started completely different, when Moritz found a dead cross bike in front of his music college, quitted his composition studies and travelled around the Baltic sea by bike. Impressed by Scandinavian singer-songwriter scene he returned to Berlin, wrote his first songs and convinced a friend to teach him singing in exchange for feeding her cat. So emerged the first EP „Cats Don’t Talk“ and a band with the same name, who’s regularly standing on stage with him. Concerts in Germany and abroad followed and just by coincidence Moritz wasn’t eaten by wild dogs on the Balkans. His kitchen sofa meanwhile developed into a fixed point for songwriters from all over the world, who not just left dirty socks but also a lot of stories which led to the second EP „Puppet Juice, Baby“ in 2014 with completed uncompleted songs by others. The title YES just fell into his lap. When the recordings were finished by the beginning of November 2016 and one Wednesday morning, his bread got stuck in Moritz’ throat while reading the news, it was clear to him, that one song was missing. And so the title song „Yes“ – a song about the dictatorship of stretched thumbs – finally made it onto the album against all odds. Other tracks deal with the life in Berlin, separations and doubts about them, about new relationships, wrong passports and the feeling, when a visum runs out the next day. About the junkie next door, about the people’s fear for each other, the fear for dying, but also about the relieving feeling of having no fear anymore. YES is release by Waterfall Records and an approved soundtrack for rush hours and long night trips on empty roads. Moritz will be on tour from May again with his bike and the guitar on the back. Destination is Melbourne in May 2018, until then he’s collecting many new stories and songs for his new album.
