"This album is devoted to the Art of German pianist Walter Gieseking. He was one of the great pianists of the 20th century. Thanks to his extraordinary musical memory and his ability to play from the sheet, he had the greatest repertoire of all piano virtuosos of his time. He was able to perform works that he had just heard or read immediately. His repertory spanned all periods from baroque to 20th-century music. Gieseking's piano playing is unmistakable. The ability to translate intellectual-sonic ideas directly into his playing made him an exception. Gieseking is above all considered an excellent Debussy and Ravel interpreter. He had a delicacy of the attack and an immense wealth of timbres that were ideal for the works of the French Impressionists. We consider the rare recording of the piano trio, which he recorded with the fantastic violinist Georg Taschner and cellist Ludwig Hoelscher in Hamburg in 1947, to be one of the most beautiful ever.
