Tango Mestizo - Nuevo Tango Argentino
About this album: Tango mestizo On this album highlights the atmosphere of the city Argentina, with its traditions, tango scent coupled with the speed of the rhythm of life that imposes the 21st century. Among its themes, you can see flashing notes of jazz, some fused with Funk, Rock and the mystery of the typical melancholy of the bandoneon in counterpoint with the piano and bass. Mestizo Tango has the imprint of the typical mid-century orchestra a tango to dance and dream in his instrumental touches. It is the continuity of the tango that is merged, as it has since its origins, and how to keep doing any style you want to stay alive. According to the maestro Anibal Arias, as well as to other researchers, the tango originated at the end of the 19th century from the mixture between the European immigrants’ music and the African people’s; the former arrived to our country fleeing from the famine and the war, while the latter were brought here as slaves. Around the same period, something similar was happening in other latitudes with different musical nuances; it was a new rythym called jazz. Elements from the milonga campera – a genre played by the gaucho of the southern lands and built on the guitar’s notes and poetic improvisation – can be clearly distinguished all along the history of tango, and more especially in the development of the guardia vieja (around 1890-1920). When the gaucho migrated to the “big city”, he took his music with him, which then mixed with the milonga porteña – nurtured from the forms and melodies of the “classical” music from Europe. The vals criollo was as well of unquestionnable European origins. In this album we go back to the origins of tango, following its afroamerican beats, highlighting the candombe and milonga elements, making the most out of the textures, the timbre and the parfum of the genre. Also, we fuse the already established styles with modern resources such as electronics and its samplers, its characteristic sounds and effects, contributing to the cross-breeding. Therein lies the name of this album. In this land of crossed cultures, we could certainly talk about world music, a familiar term from the beginning of 21st century. And even if the origins of tango are a little blurry, we can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is in continual change, as life itself…. Everything is still to be done… Special thanks to My partner Natalia, for being my light and support; to Mariano Constantino for listening with the ears of a psychologist; to Diego Xamo for his invaluable help; ; to Erica Utreras for her observations; to Maximiliano Molina, for always helping; to Federico Pola for his musical sensitivity and good predisposition; to Pablo “Petulo” Foglia for his drumming hands; to Ana Vidal and Luciana Slaen for the traslations and corrections; to Mariano Carlson (Makelele) for the design and Carari for the illustration.
