Shanghai born pianist Fou Ts'ong is the grandmaster among Chinese pianists, being the first in a long line of piano masters that have conquered the world from their nation since the Nineten Fifties on and up to the present. Being highly acclaimed for his interpretation of Chopin the London based artist returned to China on a concert tour in 1989 and again in 1998. There he gave many highly praised performances in Beijing and Shanghai and also conducted master classes. In the new century Fou has remained active as a performer, with numerous tours, including concerts in Shanghai in spring 2006. He has also been active as a member of competition juries, serving on the Queen Elizabeth Competition jury three times. The 12 Scarlatti Sonatas on this album show Fou Ts'ong's masterful playing with all facets these pieces derserve - ardent and lyrical and also with a good sense of humor.
