Consumed in Self: The title would have you believe that this album is all about consumer culture. But it does not reveal the layers of emotional depth and musical intricacy that some of the songs on this album contain. "Blame Marijuana" was written while I was high and trying to stop myself from using the drug because of the horrible paranoia and other negative side effects. It captures the feeling of spaciousness and euphoria and will leave you with a mellow buzz after listening. "Consumed in Self" is an angry tirade about how we're abusing the planet and ourselves, and Ignorance is Bliss follows a similar theme - both have some killer guitar riffs and will get your feet tapping. "Better" is a stomper of a punk-rock/pop break-up song written when I got cheated on by my first love. It's so simple and catchy that once you hear it, it will swim round and round your head until you listen again! There are some more tender and emotional tracks on the album too, such as "Don't Fade" about my father who suffers from depression brought on by a lifetime of struggle with post-polio syndrome. "Revival" , "Waterfall" and "Love Drunk" all touch on the lighter side of rock with a healthy dose of hope, exuberance and fun. And, my personal favourite.... now, you have to wait till the end of the album for this beauty.... even past the outro...! *The Secret Track* - this is a real treat and is not meant to be taken seriously at all! If you listen carefully to the different voices, you can actually hear someone saying "and then, I put the turnip in the ground, it didn't grow, and I died" - bizarre but exquisitely amusing!! Enjoy!
